Nestled in the heart of historic Clerkenwell, with the architecturally resplendent City University in perfect view from it's voluptuous windows, The Peasant has always been at the forefront of the gastro revolution. "Some Say" it was UK's second ever gastropub.
It features a stunning upstairs restaurant filled with natural light and the Victorian horseshoe bar downstairs with its original mosaic floor proudly displays the owners' fine collection of circus memorabilia and art .
The Peasant offers a choice of menus. An a-la-carte in the dining room and a lighter list in the bar. We also have one of the widest selections of beer in London, including some from the finest major and micro brewers: Crouch Vale, Four Pure, Camden Town, Brooklyn, Beavertown, Hammerton, Hackney, Bath Ales, Hawkes and our very own Sponsor: 'Meantime Brewery'.
The Peasant has won numerous awards in its majestic history including Pick of the Pubs in the AA 2020 Pub Guide. Other awards include: Regional winner of 'London Best Gastro Pub' at The Great British Pub awards; regional winner of the London Archant awards 'Best Gastro Pub', Tatler Magazine Restaurant award winner.
We're regularly featured in wedding venue magazines, websites and blogs and voted in the top 100 UK wedding venues by Conde Nast Brides Magazine. We're tipped highly on Trip Advisor, too. Grab a cab and the driver should know his way to this grand bastion of gastro pub-ness.
If you're looking for the perfect Sunday Roast, Wedding Venue, Dinner date pre- or post-Sadlers Wells, or just a cozy pint with a home-made pie by the fire and a quiet moment to reflect on hectic London life, drop an email, book a table online or just pop in
Brothers Gregory and Patrick have owned the Peasant for over 17 years. On a daily basis the pub is managed by Nick Rouse who, after years of personal pub ownership, is bringing his expertise to this glorious leviathan whilst the Brothers take care of sister pub, The Londesborough in Stoke Newington.
PlastikPatrik placemats and coasters are wonderful to touch and beautiful to behold. They're destined to become a design icon.
PlastikPatrik was designed and developed by Peasant owner and Wright brother, Patrick Wright. This classic 60's design has been brought right up to date using modern heat-resistant materials. They're softly sensual, reliably robust, and frankly fabulous.
