March 22nd, 2010
The Peasant, 240 St John street.
Now into our fourth year - The next beer festival at The Peasant starts on Thursday 22nd April and will finish on Tuesday 27th April.
It promises to be a corker, I mean a barreller (sp) with an amazing array of Britain’s finest Ales in Clerkenwell.
We look forward to seeing you, remember to leave room for the pork belly and scratching rolls!

Greta takes time out from chasing squirrels to enjoy the red velvet bed we bought just for her.

The Brothers' collection of beer cans have finally found a home.

Built in the 1850's The Londesborough is a handsome devil.
If you like the Peasant come and see us at our sister pub: ‘The Londesborough’ in Stoke Newington. The Londesborough is a fabulous building in the heart of Stoke Newington with two open fireplaces to keep warm this winter and a great garden and outside kitchen for summer. We are looking forward to creating some great BBQ menus!
The inside has been decorated with the owners’ own beer can collection which we amassed as children and have stored for some thirty years. There have been casualties but some of the best cans (hardest cans in can collectors speak) are on display and the jewel style cabinets provide the light for the cosy restaurant area.
The menus on offer reflect some of what we do at The Peasant with strong British flavors and an eye on the simple and affordable . This is a residential area and we would like the ‘locals’ to enjoy it.
The whole pub can be hired for events and we highly recommend booking Saturday and Sunday as lunches are getting very popular.
For reservations call: 020-72545865 and ask for Annie Graham or Patrick.
We have already seen some Peasants at the Londesborough! if you know what i mean, and we hope to see more!

Gregory and Patrick celebrate ten years of running the Peasant with a one off Special Ale
Gregory recently visited Brodies Brewery in London’s east end and hit on the idea of a special ale bottled for the Peasant as a celebration for running our Gastropub for ten years. Its a very smooth ale and we will have some five hundred bottles to sell in the Bar.
‘THE INDEPENDENT’ September 2009
The Peasant voted top 50 Gastro-pubs in the UK!
We are really happy to win another award in 2009. Thank you so much if you voted for us!
We strive to keep our customers happy and to win this North London Award voted for by the public means we are doing something right
Thankyou!!!
“Gin palace turned gastropub, the pleasant Peasant exudes a contemporary tone with its continental draught beers and posters of punk rock stars.”
The Peasant is one of London’s best gastropubs. It is an old well-kept gin palace, lovingly cared for by Gregory and Patrick Wright. The bar features mosaic floors, and glazed tiled walls, whilst the restaurant upstairs features old circus memorabilia – making for a comfortable dining experience.
Come and check out our comfortable bar area (dog friendly!) as well as our luscious Al Fresco dining garden on the first floor.
The Peasant practises an ethical approach to our fine food and drinking experience. We actively source food locally ourselves from nearby Smithfields Market. This gives you the highest possible standard of dining at our award winning restaurant and bar - as well allowing us to do our bit for the environment whilst keeping our energy use and carbon footprint to a minimum!
